Martial Arts School Marketing: How to Fill Classes Predictably

Hey, it’s Donovan here. Martial arts school marketing should answer one question: how do we get enough of the right local people to enquire, show up, and join as full-paying members?

Not “how do we go viral.” Not “how do we win a design award.” Members. Revenue. Full classes.

I’ve helped 450+ martial arts schools build that machine. This guide is the plain-English version of what works across boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, BJJ and mixed academies.

For the deep dive on enquiries and conversion, use lead generation for martial arts schools.

What “good” school marketing looks like

A healthy school marketing system has four parts:

  1. Offer - a clear intro that fits your capacity and market
  2. Acquisition - usually Meta ads in a local radius
  3. Follow-up - speed-to-lead by phone, SMS or WhatsApp
  4. Conversion - trials that turn into memberships

Miss one part and the others look broken. Great ads with slow follow-up fail. Great follow-up with a confusing offer fails.

Step 1: Position the school for the people you can serve

Be specific:

  • Kids, adults, or both?
  • Fitness, self-defence, competition, or confidence?
  • Beginners welcome or intermediate-only vibe?

Parents and adults should understand in five seconds why your school is for them. Vague “martial arts for everyone” messaging slows decisions.

Step 2: Build a simple local acquisition engine

For most UK and similar markets, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) is still the main paid channel for martial arts school marketing.

  • Radius around the school
  • Creative that looks like your gym
  • Lead forms or WhatsApp that capture contact details
  • A budget you can run steadily, not only when panic hits

Step 3: Follow up like rent depends on it (because it does)

Aim for minutes, not days. Have a script. Book the trial. Remind them before they arrive. Chase no-shows once without being awkward about it.

This is where DIY marketing usually dies - not in Ads Manager.

Step 4: Convert trials on purpose

A trial is a sales appointment with pads on. Explain the membership. Handle objections. Offer a clear start date. Track trial → member rate every month.

Discipline-specific notes

Different styles share the same engine, but messaging shifts:

Use the guide that matches your mats, then plug it into the same ads + follow-up system.

What to ignore (so you stay focused)

  • Town-by-town SEO pages that don’t match how you actually operate
  • Posting schedules with no offer or CTA
  • Discount wars that train people to wait for the next cheap deal
  • Buying tools before you have a follow-up habit

When martial arts school marketing should be done-with-you or done-for-you

Map your current week against the four parts: offer, ads, follow-up, conversion. Fix the weakest link first.
